Loratadine is a non-drowsy antihistamine used for allergic rhinitis and long-term hives (urticaria).
Primary uses
- Runny nose, sneezing, and itchy eyes from allergies
- Chronic itchy skin or hives
How it works
Blocks histamine H1 receptors involved in allergic responses without significantly crossing into the brain, so it rarely causes drowsiness.

Do not use if
- Known allergy to loratadine or desloratadine
Pregnancy

Both are effective. Loratadine is very unlikely to cause drowsiness; cetirizine may work slightly faster for some people.
